Phyllis Logan, known for her role as Mrs Hughes in Downton Abbey, will take on the lead role in The Puzzle Lady, a new drama from Channel 5.
The six-part series is based on the best-selling novels by Parnell Hall. Logan will play Cora Felton, a recent arrival in the town of Bakerbury, where she becomes involved in a murder investigation. The police are struggling with the case, particularly a cryptic crossword puzzle left on the victim’s body, and reluctantly seek Cora’s help.
While Cora is famous for her puzzle-solving abilities, she isn’t exactly who she appears to be. As the investigation progresses, she begins to attract both friends and foes within the town.
Dominique Moloney has been confirmed as the screenwriter, with Tom Dalton directing and production for The Puzzle Lady is already underway in Northern Ireland, with the series expected to premiere in 2025.
