On Friday, June 28, 2024, Real Time with Bill Maher welcomes computer scientist, author, inventor, and futurist Ray Kurzweil, political commentator and retired talk show host Chris Matthews, and politician, U.S. Army Reserve officer, and former U.S. Representative Tulsi Gabbard to the show.

Kurzweil, born in 1948, is known for his work in fields such as optical character recognition, text-to-speech synthesis, speech recognition technology, and electronic keyboard instruments. He has written books on health technology, artificial intelligence, transhumanism, the technological singularity, and futurism. Kurzweil has received numerous accolades, including the 1999 National Medal of Technology and Innovation, and has been recognized as one of the world’s leading inventors and futurists.

Matthews, born in 1945, is a veteran political commentator and author who hosted the weeknight talk show Hardball with Chris Matthews on MSNBC from 1997 until his retirement in 2020. He has also served as a visiting fellow at Harvard University’s Institute of Politics and held positions in the United States Capitol Police and the staffs of four Democratic Members of Congress.

Gabbard, born in 1981, is a former U.S. Representative for Hawaii’s 2nd congressional district, serving from 2013 to 2021. She was the first Samoan-American voting member of Congress and ran for the Democratic nomination in the 2020 U.S. presidential election. Gabbard has been a vocal critic of U.S. involvement in foreign wars and has advocated for progressive domestic policies, criminal justice reform, and an easier path to citizenship for illegal immigrants.
