Viaplay has confirmed that the new ‘Rebus’ series will premiere in the US on November 7. This adaptation reimagines John Rebus, portrayed by Richard Rankin (‘Outlander,’ ‘The Last Kingdom’), as a younger Detective Sergeant.
Set in Edinburgh, the series follows Rebus as he becomes entangled in a violent criminal conflict that turns personal when his brother Michael, a former soldier played by Brian Ferguson, crosses into criminality. Rebus faces the dilemma of protecting his brother or upholding the law.
The show, based on Sir Ian Rankin’s best-selling “Inspector Rebus” novels, has already been available to viewers in the UK through BBC iPlayer since May. Fans in the US can stream the six-episode series on Viaplay partner channels, including Viaplay on Prime Video Channels.
The series features a cast that includes Lucie Shorthouse, Thoren Ferguson, Caroline Lee-Johnson, Stuart Bowman, Amy Manson, Neshla Caplan, and Noof Ousellam.
Produced by Eleventh Hour Films for Viaplay, it is written by Gregory Burke and directed by Niall MacCormick and Fiona Walton.
