Reuben: Life in the Dales returns to Channel 5 with its sixth episode, airing on Thursday, 30 May 2024. The episode offers a glimpse into the challenges that winter brings for Reuben and his friends.
The episode begins with a plumbing project for Reuben, who is helping his neighbors and friends, John and Rachel. However, things don’t go as planned when rainwater lifts the septic tank, causing an unexpected disaster. While Reuben and Sarah tackle the task of re-installing the tank, Tommy faces his own worries about his theory test, which could impact his dream of becoming a truck driver.
The team also takes on a significant job at a Victorian village school, where they must dig out the playground before it can be transformed into a B&B.
Unfortunately, they encounter another hurdle when they accidentally damage an ancient underground drain with Reuben’s multi-tonne digger. To address this issue, they seek the expertise of their friend and stone mason, Pete Roe, who helps them repair the drain using Roman technology.
As the episode progresses, Tommy and Sarah make plans to participate in the local young farmers’ Christmas tractor parade, purchasing an 8-foot tree for the occasion. However, they run into a last-minute challenge when Reuben’s tractor malfunctions, forcing them to quickly decorate the Land Rover instead.
Meanwhile, Reuben surprises his younger brother, Sidney, with a petrol-powered buggy he spotted at a farmer’s auction, but they soon discover a long list of problems that need to be fixed. Sidney eagerly rolls up his sleeves to tackle the repairs.
The episode concludes with Reuben and his friends gathering at their local pub to reflect on the challenges and highlights of the past year and toast to the new year ahead, marking the end of Reuben’s second year in business.
