Riz Ahmed is making his return to television, stepping into multiple roles for a new comedy series on Prime Video. The Oscar and Emmy-winning actor will star in the currently untitled project, which he also created and will produce. This marks Ahmed’s first regular TV role since his acclaimed performance in “The Night Of.”
In the series, Ahmed portrays Shah Latif, “a struggling actor facing a career opportunity, a personal crisis, and a mysterious conspiracy all at once.” The show will explore these intersecting themes in a blend of humor and drama.
Ahmed expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “I’ve wanted to tell this story for a long time. It’s personal, bold, and a lot of fun. It feels so good to be writing and creating it now with this incredible team.”
The series will be produced by Jax Media and Amazon MGM Studios, with Ben Karlin of “Modern Family” and “The Daily Show” fame serving as co-showrunner alongside Ahmed. Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon MGM Studios, praised Ahmed’s involvement: “Riz Ahmed is a gifted writer, actor, and producer, and we have been energized by his passion.”
Left Handed, Ahmed’s production company, which has a first-look deal with Amazon MGM Studios, will also be involved. The writers’ room includes Dipika Guha, Prashanth Venkataramanujam, and novelist Fatima Farheen Mirza.
