In Ross Kemp: Mafia and Britain, actor and documentarian Ross Kemp investigates Britain’s deep and surprising connections with the mafia, dating back to the 1920s. The series challenges the assumption that the UK has no ties to this infamous organised crime organisation, however it turns out the reality is quite different.
In the second episode, Kemp travels to New York, where he meets Salvatore ‘Crazy Sal’ Polisi, a former mafia enforcer. Kemp uncovers the history of how British bootleggers exported alcohol to the US during the prohibition era, inadvertently helping to build the power of the mafia.
Kemp’s exploration sends him back through time, starting in London in 1982 with the mysterious death of Roberto Calvi, known as the ‘God’s Banker’. Over the course of the series, he travels to New York, Italy, Sicily, Colombia, Spain, and back to London, piecing together the intricate web of the mafia’s involvement in Britain.
Ross Kemp: Mafia and Britain, U.S. airs on Sky History, September 17, 2024, at 9:00 pm.
