In a double bill of episodes, Secret Amazon: Into the Wild takes viewers on an extraordinary expedition led by British explorer Lucy Shepherd and her Indigenous team as they venture into uncharted Amazon rainforest territory. Their ambitious 50-day journey on foot aims to highlight the crucial need to preserve this fragile ecosystem, which is increasingly threatened by human activity.
The team braves relentless dangers, including venomous bushmaster snakes, swarming wasps, and massive black caimans. In the first episode, they tackle the dense jungle canopy, their home for the coming months, while avoiding the deadly bushmasters and a wild peccary herd. A team member’s serious injury leads to an evacuation, leaving the others to question their ability to continue without him.
The second and final episode finds the team confronting their worst fears as they encounter the bushmaster snake and make split-second decisions to survive. Giant wasp attacks and river crossings filled with black caimans test their resilience and raise doubts about their safe return.
