Dick and Angel Strawbridge, the adventurous duo known for their love of exploration and unique experiences, are back with a brand-new three part series, Secret France with Dick and Angel. In this opening episode, airing on Channel 4 on Sunday 2 June, they venture beyond the gates of their beloved chateau to uncover the hidden gems of their adopted home country, France.
In this episode, Dick and Angel embark on a journey to three distinct areas of France, each offering a unique perspective on the country’s rich culture and history. They begin their travels in the vibrant city of Marseille, located in the enchanting region of Provence.
Often overlooked by travellers, Marseille reveals a bustling spice market, charming hidden bars, and France’s oldest hardware shop, where the couple indulges in a spot of shopping. They also pay homage to their culinary hero, Julia Child, who called Marseille home in the 1950s. Dick even tries his hand at cooking a sustainable bouillabaisse on the shores of the breathtaking Frioul archipelago.
The couple then explores the forests of the Var, where they discover the ancient tradition of cork harvesting, still thriving. Their journey continues to Grasse, where they create a unique perfume encapsulating the essence of their trip. Finally, they arrive at their last stop, the Camargue, Western Europe’s largest river delta. Here, they are awe-struck by the stunning pink waters, white encrusted salt flats, and the graceful wild flamingos.
