The PBS series Secrets of the Dead returns for a new season of 7 episodes, starting Wednesday, 2 October 2024, at 10/9c.

The season opens with “Returning to Babylon,” which follows archaeologists in search of Assyrian artifacts following the destruction caused by ISIS in Mosul. This season also includes episodes on Mozart’s sister, Maria Anna; ancient scroll reading with particle physics and AI; and the search for the remains of Black Civil War soldiers who faced post-war violence.

The season also explores a 17th-century burial field of vampires and reveals the secrets of Angkor Wat’s treasure and the rise of the Khmer Empire in a two-part episode.

Secrets of the Dead is a perennial favourite, ranking highly on public television viewership. The series employs scientific discoveries to provide insights into historical events, challenging prevailing ideas with fresh perspectives.
