Tim Dunn and Siddy Holloway begin their exploration by venturing beneath Waterloo, one of Britain’s busiest stations. Here, Tim gains access to a hidden world under the main concourse, including a former typing pool, a rifle range, and a full-size snooker table, untouched for years. Meanwhile, Siddy Holloway uncovers a floodgate beneath the station, installed to protect the tunnel from German bombing raids during World War II.
Siddy then heads to Marble Arch on the Central Line, where she meets the artist responsible for the iconic enamel artwork on the platforms, created in the 1980s. These unique designs, each depicting the Marble Arch in a distinct style, remain in immaculate condition decades later. Siddy learns about the creative process behind these artworks and the artist’s journey in mastering the intricate craft of enamel work.
The episode also features a visit to the London Transport Museum’s depot, where Tim discovers the latest enamel signs being crafted for the Underground network. These signs, including those for the new Windrush Line, continue the tradition of enamel signage across the Tube.
