In the opening episode of Showtrial’s second series, a climate activist is left fighting for his life after a hit-and-run incident. With his dying breath, he accuses a serving police officer of being his attacker, leaving the nation divided and the media in a frenzy.
The episode, titled “Officer X,” explores the aftermath of this shocking incident as defence solicitor Sam Malik (Adeel Akhtar) finds himself at the centre of a highly publicised trial that grips the nation.
We learn that the victim is Marcus Calderwood, a well-known climate activist. In his final moments, he alleges that his attacker is none other than a policeman. This revelation sparks intense scrutiny and raises disturbing questions about trauma, revenge, and the true nature of Marcus’ death. Was it a tragic accident, or something more sinister?
