Snapped: Cathleen Roth (Oxygen, Sunday October 6, 2024)

Snapped

Oxygen True Crime presents a new episode of Snapped on Sunday evening, looking into the case of Cathleen Roth, a teacher whose routine welfare check revealed a shocking truth.

The investigation into her disappearance uncovers a deep family history and a plot driven by vengeance and jealousy.

The year was 2009 when Roth, an Albuquerque teacher, was attacked in her own home. Her daughter-in-law, Cathleen “Kit” Roth, along with an accomplice, James Johnson, carried out the heinous act. They strangled the 61-year-old and buried her body in a shallow grave in the Jemez Mountains.

But what led to this brutal murder? It was a matter of revenge. Roth had reported her son, Bryan Roth, to the authorities for stealing her debit card. This sparked a chain of events that ended in her untimely demise.

James Johnson faced the consequences for his role, being sentenced to 28 years in prison in 2011. As for Cathleen Roth, she pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit murder and second-degree murder.

Snapped: Cathleen Roth airs on Oxygen True Crime, Sunday, October 6, 2024.
