The first episode of Spent introduces us to Mia, who finds herself in a challenging situation. Having declared bankruptcy in the US, she escapes to London, striving to maintain her affluent facade.
However, when she gets back, Mia discovers that those she left behind have moved on with their lives. Her mother, Chrissy, is busy caring for a teenage girl from the estate, and her best friend, Jo, is happily engaged to be married.
Mia struggles to come to terms with her new reality and feels trapped in a state of limbo. She finds temporary relief when a rare modelling opportunity presents itself. Yet, when she arrives at the photoshoot, Mia is confronted by the harsh truth about her future job prospects.
