Susan starts her trip at the elegant Eastbourne Pier, enjoying the amusements and partaking in a traditional afternoon tea with a unique twist in the Victorian Tea Rooms. She then heads to Sovereign Harbour and takes a rib boat to the iconic Beachy Head chalk sea cliff, the highest in the UK. Nearby, she visits the Belle Tout lighthouse, which has been converted into a unique B&B offering panoramic views from its lantern room.
Susan’s love for all things miniature and railway-related is indulged at the Eastbourne Miniature Steam Railway, where she even gets to blow the whistle! She also samples the classic seaside dish of fish and chips, with a vegan twist, and is surprised by how delicious it is.
On the beach, Susan meets singer and broadcaster Aled Jones, who shares memories of his childhood by the sea. They indulge in a seaside sundae competition, creating their own unique ice cream treats. Aled also joins a group beach fishing, a pastime that evokes fond recollections of his youth.
To round off her grand day out, Susan visits the Eastbourne bandstand, reputed to be the busiest in the world, and enjoys a performance by the Eastbourne Silver Band, providing the perfect end to her seaside holiday.
