ABC Australia is set to premiere the factual series “The Assembly” on Tuesday, August 20, at 8:30 pm on ABC TV and ABC iview. The series is a collaboration between ABC, Aspect (Australia’s largest service provider for people on the autism spectrum), and Macquarie University.
Mentored by journalist Leigh Sales, “The Assembly” follows a team of autistic journalism students as they interview prominent Australians, including Sam Neill, Hamish Blake, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Delta Goodrem, Adam Goodes, and Amanda Keller.
Over six episodes, the students learn their craft, research their guests, and plan their questions, resulting in disarming, surprising, and engaging interviews. “The Assembly” offers a fresh and poignant take on the traditional interview format, revealing the real person behind the public figure.
The series is produced by HELIUM Pictures, in partnership with Aspect, Macquarie University, and Bus Stop Films, Australia’s leading social enterprise supporting people with disabilities in filmmaking.
