The Equalizer Season 5 Premiere Recap

The Equalizer Key Art

The Equalizer returned to CBS with a season five premiere on Sunday night, and things are different. Dante’s gone (promotional congrats, but we miss you!), Mel’s still recovering from her abduction trauma, and Robyn’s carrying the vigilante weight, with occasional assists from her newly single ex-husband, Miles.

This week’s case involves stolen groceries…that turn out to be cartel weaponry. Two foster siblings, Kevin and Randi, inadvertently swipe an arms shipment, landing themselves in hot water with some very dangerous people.

Robyn, alerted by their foster mom, Sara, finds herself tackling the NYPD impound lot, using a strategically placed sandwich to retrieve the truck. (Always bet on bribery, folks.) But returning the goods isn’t Robyn’s style. She tracks down the siblings, only to get knocked out and taken hostage herself. Luckily, Kevin and Randi escape and return the favor, rescuing Robyn in a hotwired getaway car. Kids these days.

The episode highlights Robyn’s vulnerability. Despite her skills, she’s clearly feeling the strain of working solo. Mel’s PTSD is a poignant reminder of the emotional toll of this vigilante life, and Robyn’s near-capture underscores the need for backup. Enter Miles, who seems genuinely committed to reconnecting with Robyn and, potentially, joining the team. His newfound willingness to be a partner, both personally and professionally, could be a game-changer.

But with Robyn now on a cartel hit list, things are far from settled. The episode ends with a sense of unease. The bad guys got their guns back, and Robyn’s in deeper than ever. It’s clear she can’t do this alone, and the question remains: who will step up to help?
