The BBC’s gripping new crime thriller, The Jetty, debuts with its first episode on BBC One at 9:00 pm, and the full series of four episodes is available on BBC iPlayer today.
In the wake of a fire that tears through a holiday home in a scenic Lancashire lake town, Detective Ember Manning finds herself drawn into a complex investigation. This blaze, which occurs on the first anniversary of her husband’s death, sets off a chain of events that will challenge Ember personally and professionally.
Across the four episodes, Ember uncovers an illicit ‘love’ triangle involving an older man and two underage girls, one of whom is pregnant. As she investigates, she encounters true crime podcaster Riz, who is investigating the cold case disappearance of Amy Knightly. Their paths intersect as they share information, with Riz revealing that the older man is a suspected serial predator. This prompts Ember to reflect on her own past and the age difference between her and her late husband.
However, as Ember gets closer to the truth, her life begins to unravel. In episode two, she is desperate to uncover what Riz knows about Amy’s case and suspects that Miranda, one of the underage girls, is being abused. Ember’s fears escalate when she learns that the lake will be searched for Amy’s remains, and Riz goes silent. In episode three, the discovery of a body in the lake adds a new dimension to the investigation, and Ember is determined to identify Miranda’s abuser, believing it could lead her to Amy’s killer.
In the fourth and final episode, Ember, suspended from duty, grapples with the possibility that her late husband may have been involved in Amy’s disappearance. As the truth begins to emerge, Ember’s instincts prove correct, but not without putting her in dangerous territory.
