The Australian adaptation of the iconic comedy series, The Office, premieres on Prime Video on 18 October. This version marks the thirteenth iteration of the global franchise and is the first to feature a woman in the central role.
Comedian and actor Felicity Ward stars as Hannah Howard, the managing director of packaging company Flinley Craddock. When faced with the news that her branch is set to close, with staff expected to work from home, Ward’s character makes extravagant promises to keep her team together, setting off a series of outlandish schemes and an uncertain future for her staff, or her “work family”.
The eight-part series, available for global binge-watching, includes Australian talent, such as Edith Poor, Steen Raskopoulos, Shari Sebbens, and Josh Thomson.
The Office has become a comedy institution since British creators Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant launched the original over twenty years ago. The series has inspired numerous local adaptations, with each putting their unique cultural spin on the format. Adaptations include versions from the US, France, Canada, Chile, Israel, India, the Middle East, and Poland.
The Australian version is developed by Julie De Fina and Jackie van Beek, who also directs alongside Christiaan Van Vuuren and Jesse Griffin. De Fina and van Beek also executive produce.
