Netflix has announced an upcoming original series, “The Queen of Villains,” premiering globally on 19 September. The five-episode drama explores the rise of Dump Matsumoto, the most feared “heel” in Japanese women’s pro wrestling during its golden age.

The series spans the 1970s to the 1980s, a time when female pro-wrestling tag teams like “Beauty Pair” and “Crush Gals” became national icons, fascinating Japan with their wrestling skills and showmanship.

Dump Matsumoto, their sworn rival, made herself the enemy of all Japan, wreaking havoc inside and outside the ring. The series delves into the events that shaped her into one of the most disliked figures in Japanese wrestling history.

The cast includes Yuriyan Retriever as Dump Matsumoto, Erika Karata as Chigusa Nagayo, and Ayame Goriki as Lioness Asuka. The series is developed, written, and produced by Osamu Suzuki, with Kazuya Shiraishi as the supervising director. Chigusa Nagayo herself led the physical training for the actors, ensuring authentic wrestling scenes.
