The Supervet: Noel Fitzpatrick: Season 19, Episode 3 (Channel 4, 26 June 2024)

Channel 4

The renowned veterinary surgeon Professor Noel Fitzpatrick and his dedicated team at Fitzpatrick Referrals are back for another insightful episode, airing on Channel 4 on Wednesday 26 June, offering hope and innovative solutions to families seeking help for their beloved animal companions.

In this emotional episode, we meet two-year-old Boston terrier Rogan, who struggles with debilitating hip dysplasia. Recognizing Rogan’s unique needs, Professor Fitzpatrick explains to his concerned mums, Megan and Shana, that an off-the-shelf cemented total hip replacement may not be the ideal long-term solution due to Rogan’s young age and breed.

Instead, he proposes a cutting-edge approach: a next-generation uncemented implant system custom-made for Rogan, offering improved stability and a reduced chance of loosening over time.

Additionally, we witness the story of Brodie, a handsome nine-year-old Hungarian vizsla, whose life has been affected by developmental elbow disease. Unfortunately, a previous botched operation by another vet has left the joint collapsed and infected, causing constant pain.

Professor Fitzpatrick steps in with a ray of hope, introducing a new customised implant system designed to fuse the damaged bones together and alleviate Brodie’s suffering.

The episode also introduces us to Vinnie, a two-year-old tabby cat, who finds himself in a dire situation after being hit by a car. Fortunately, he has no internal injuries, but the focus shifts to repairing the significant damage to his back legs before infection sets in. Professor Fitzpatrick and his team spring into action, utilising their expertise to give Vinnie the best chance at a full recovery.
