Tracker Season 2 Episode 2 Recap

Tracker Key Art

Tracker is only two episodes into its sophomore season, but so far, so good. While the premiere was a standard missing-person procedural with a twist, this episode veered into government conspiracies and UFOs (or UAPs, as we’re apparently calling them now).

Keeping things fresh is key for a show like this, and the tonal shift worked. This time, Colter tangles with shadowy government types and extraterrestrial intrigue, proving even a badass tracker can get in over his head.

The case revolved around Scott Palmer, a grieving conspiracy theorist obsessed with aliens. Let’s be honest, Scott’s predicament wasn’t exactly shocking. Anyone poking around in government secrets is bound to attract unwanted attention.

Cue Colter, who predictably followed Scott’s trail and landed himself in hot water. Thankfully, big brother Russell Shaw (Jensen Ackles, radiating effortless charisma) arrived just in time for a Shaw family reunion.

The brotherly banter was a highlight, their inflated egos and contrasting styles making for entertaining viewing. Russell’s quips and Colter’s barely-concealed annoyance at the constant Reenie/Russell “best buds” commentary are pure gold.

The potential romantic subplot is fun, if slightly underdeveloped, but Ackles and Fiona Rene sell it even with limited interaction. The Shaw family drama remains shrouded in mystery, but the hints about Ashton’s past suggest there’s more to uncover.

Plot-wise, a few things didn’t quite add up. The lax security around the supposed alien landing site? Scott’s extended stay in a trailer without detection? It felt a bit convenient, but hey, sometimes you gotta roll with it. The near-extraterrestrial encounter was a red herring, but the episode still delivered on the brotherly dynamics and witty banter.

Russell’s sudden dismissal of the mysterious box Dory possesses felt a tad suspicious, perhaps hinting at hidden motives. But maybe he’s just trying to protect Colter from further pain? Time will tell. For now, let’s appreciate the return of Russell Shaw. He makes Tracker just that much better.

Tracker airs Sunday nights on CBS.
