Trailer Drops for Black Doves, Netflix’s Keira Knightley-Led Spy Thriller

Black Doves Keira Knightly

Netflix has released the trailer for Black Doves, a six-part spy thriller starring Keira Knightley, Ben Whishaw, and Sarah Lancashire. Set in London during the Christmas season, the series follows Helen Webb (Knightley), a spy juggling her domestic life with her work for a clandestine organization known as the Black Doves. When her lover is assassinated, Helen teams up with an old friend (Whishaw) to uncover a conspiracy that reaches from the London underworld to a global crisis.

The trailer features a cover of Nancy Sinatra’s “Bang Bang” by Raye, setting a stylish and suspenseful tone. It offers glimpses of Knightley in action, hinting at a departure from her more period-piece-heavy roles. With a cast that also includes Sarah Lancashire, fresh off the success of Happy Valley, Black Doves looks to be a solid addition to Netflix’s thriller offerings.

The series hails from Joe Barton, the creator of Giri/Haji and The Lazarus Project, suggesting a focus on intricate plotting and complicated characters. The involvement of SISTER, the production company behind hits like Chernobyl and This is Going to Hurt, further raises expectations for a high-quality production. And with Netflix already renewing the series for a second season before the first has even premiered, the streamer clearly has confidence in Black Doves’ potential. Whether the series lives up to that potential remains to be seen, but with a strong cast and pedigree, it’s certainly one to watch this holiday season.
