The third episode of West End Murders explores the tragic case of 16-year-old Lynne Weedon, who was raped and murdered in 1975 in Hounslow, West London. The program examines the unsolved crime, which has haunted investigators for decades.
On September 3, 1975, Weedon was attacked and beaten to death after entering an alleyway called The Short Hedges of the Great Western Road around 11 pm. Her body was found in the grounds of an electricity substation, having been struck with a blunt instrument and thrown over a fence.
The sexual nature of the attack and the fact that the case remains unsolved add a disturbing dimension to the story. However, there is a glimmer of hope in the form of new DNA evidence. In 2004, authorities reopened the cold case and, using advanced techniques, discovered a link between Weedon’s murder and that of Eve Stratford. This revelation suggested the possibility of a serial killer operating unnoticed for years.
The investigation into Weedon’s death continues, and a £40,000 reward is still on offer for any information that could lead to the identification and capture of her killer.
