On Wednesday’s episode of Wild West Chronicles, we journey back in time to Sonora, Texas, where the mild-mannered druggist and former teacher, Elijah Briant, finds himself in a precarious situation.
Elected as the town’s sheriff, Briant attempts to uphold the law without resorting to violence, a decision that doesn’t sit well with his deputies. When Briant decides to intervene in a bank robbery without carrying a weapon, he is shot and wounded.
As Briant recovers, he learns of an even greater danger looming over the town. Will Carver, a notorious member of the Wild Bunch gang, joins forces with his friend, George Kilpatrick, to raid Sonora. Assuming the sheriff will be no obstacle, they ride into town with malicious intent. Briant, faced with a difficult choice, must decide between adhering to his peaceful principles or taking up arms to protect the town and all that he holds dear.
Years later, Briant’s deputy seeks out Bat Masterson, a former gunfighter turned newspaperman, to recount the tale of Briant’s bravery and determination in the face of deadly outlaws.
