In the action adventure series The Adventurer, Gene Bradley is a C.I.A. agent who uses his position as a well known actor to go undercover on his cases. Like The Saint before him, Bradley wasn’t averse to helping out damsels in distress and liased with Mr Parminter (posing as his manager) who was in charge of handing out assignments. Fellow agents included Gavin Jones and Diane Marsh.
Gene Barry was a major star during the 1960’s playing in both Burke’s Law and The Name of the Game but the general consensus was that he was getting a little long in the tooth to play the action hero here. As usual there is the usual amount of back projection on the studio lot to try and persuade we were really in exotic locales but some genuine location shooting took place in France.
Despite some high profile writers (including the likes of Donald James, Tony Williamson and Dennis Spooner) and guest stars like Judy Geeson, Patrick Mower, Anthony Ainley, Roy Kinnear, George Sewell, Sydney Tafler, Pamela Salem and Freddie Jones, the series came and went without too many people noticing. The half hour format no doubt didn’t help.
Scoton was the production company set up by writer Dennis Spooner and producer Monty Berman.
