Married Single Other (ITV 2010, Amanda Abbington, Dean Lennox Kelly)

Romantic comedy drama series Married Single Other focuses on the relationships between a trio of couples, all of whom are seemingly struggling to find out just what it is all about when it comes to romance in our modern world. Babs is starting to realise that her marriage to Dickie is on the verge of falling apart, he is a loafer who is convinced the big idea to make his fortune is just around the corner.

Meanwhile Lillie and Eddie have been together for 16 years, Lillie though is determined not to get married to Eddie despite the fact that he has proposed once a year since they have been together. However her new job at a woman’s refuge centre causes her to start questioning the reason behind her decision.

Lastly Clint (Dickie’s brother) is a confirmed womaniser who doesn’t believe in long term relationships, in fact he thinks two days is stretching it a bit. But then he meets Abby, a model who has him thinking that it might just be time to settle down.

Writer Souter has clearly been well schooled in the Cold Feet genre of tv rom com but MSO is no worse for that, in fact it entertains in all the right places and it also makes a change to see some nicely ordinary people in a drama series. As star Shaun Dooley remarked “Eddie is a character we’ve not seen on TV for a while. He’s a really nice, decent bloke, and he loves his wife and kids and will do anything for them and that’s all he’s concerned about.”
